Mentor: Dr. Elena Aikawa
Dr. Takeshi Tanaka completed his master’s degree of pharmaceutical science in 2003 at Okayama University, with research on drug resistant mechanisms of E coli. After joining toxicology department in Kowa Company, he has overseen toxicological assessments of various compounds in the development of pharmaceutical agents. In 2016, he received his doctorate degree in veterinary pathology from Gifu University, with his thesis on developmental neurotoxicity, focused on hippocampal neurogenesis. Dr. Tanaka joined Dr. Elena Aikawa’s research group at CICS in April of 2019 to investigate pharmacological targets in cardiovascular calcification. Specifically, his research is focusing on aortic valve calcification as a therapeutic target, which he is exploring through computational target prediction, molecular biology, and microsurgery approach in animal models.
